3 Good News for NetKL’s SHARED HOSTING clients

Greetings to our valued Clients,
You receive this email because you are one of our SHARED HOSTING clients.

We have 3 good news for you, i.e :

1) Server Resources limit enforcement
As you are already aware, SHARED HOSTING means, 1 server is being shared with 200-300 clients/users. If there are 2-3 clients who use almost all server Resources, website loading speed for other clients (in the same server) will become very slow, hence, unfair to them.

Therefore, all hosting companies (in Malaysia/worldwide) has enforced server Resources consumption limit to their SHARED HOSTING clients, including NetKL. You can see that clause in our TOS : http://www.netkl.com/terms_of_services.html).

Nevertheless, we had never been so strict with that clause before, until one of our SHARED HOSTING servers had become very slow lately (since 2-3 months ago), due to high Resources consumption by few blogging websites. To avoid this from recurring, we have decided to strictly enforce the Resources consumption limits as follow :

1) Hourly Limit : 2200 script executions per hour, or, 120 cron executions per day.

OR..

2) Daily Limit : 48000 script executions per hour, or, 1800 cron executions per day.

What we mean with ‘Execution’ is; all PHP or Cron processes happening in your hosting, eg. when you (or your website visitors) open/view/download/upload any page/file in your website, or, when you (or your website visitors) post any entry/comment in your website. If the page you (or your visitors) are accessing has any script/code/plugin that has long loops, or, is constantly calling a database and doing complex queries, therefore, that will cause the server to work harder to perform all instructions, hence, using too much of server’s Resources.

If your website is using Resources more than the allowed limit, your website will be automatically suspended.

If you have reached your Hourly Limit, your account will be suspended for that HOUR only, and will be accessible back on the next hour.

If you have reached your Daily Limit, your account will be suspended for that DAY only, and will be accessible back on the next day (i.e at 12 mid night)

You can always view your Resources consumption statistic in your cPanel. (Here is the button location of that statistic : http://awesomescreenshot.com/00fpzhz73)

For you info, all suspend/unsuspend executions are run automatically by the system.

Therefore, to avoid this problem from happening/recurring, kindly check/modify all settings in your websites, reduce ‘resource-intensive’ plugin usage or widgets. If there is any unimportant cron, kindly disable/deletekan the cron setting to minimise your Resources consumption.

With the enforcement of this clause, all websites which don’t use high Resources consumption will not be affected at all. Server will become more stable, and your website can be surfed much faster, especially during peak hours.

2) Client account safety feature
Apart from the above, we have also taken a step to improve safety features of our clients account, where every hosting account will be ‘locked/isolated’ to their individual hosting account. This means, if any account has been compromised (eg. being hacked), it will not affect other clients in the same server.

3) Freedom to choose PHP version
The best news is; clients are allowed to choose their PHP version. We have enabled options, where clients can now choose their preferred PHP version from our 6 PHP versions we provide. This include PHP 4 version. Therefore, eventhough you are using old PHP software, it still can be used in your hosting. (You can see this option here : http://www.netkl.com/data/1hsoftware.png)

For you info, all the 3 changes above have not been fully implemented throughout all of our SHARED HOSTING servers yet. For now, they have just been implemented on 5 of our server only. We expect to fully implement them in our remaining servers in 2 months time. Therefore, if you still cannot see the changes (or view this option in your cPanel: http://www.netkl.com/data/1hsoftware.png), kindly bear with us for a moment, until we implement it in your server, where your hosting is located.
