Malaysia is committed to the principle of net neutrality and no Internet censorship, said Deputy Minister of Information, Arts and Heritage Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) practice the concept of open access to telecommunications licensees under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“Any enforcement taken against any act done on the Internet that has violated any law of Malaysia is not contrary to the principle of net neutrality,” he said when answering questions Tony Phua Kim Wee (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Salang (right) said that the principle refers to the principle that Internet service providers (ISPs) should be free of restrictions on any content, web pages, platform used, type of equipment that can be connected to the network and communication method used.
He said the principle was also ensure that there is no communication received from other communication preferences in the ISP network services.
Answer additional questions, he said the government will always monitor so that there is no service provider is monopolized any party, including Telekom Malaysia as a provider of infrastructure services for ISPs.
“Telekom Malaysia will not rein in terms of increasing broadband service providers and will be sharing with service providers that use fasilitinya,” he said.
He also said the government and Telekom Malaysia direct MCMC to provide papers relating to how your ISP can provide service at lower cost.
Papers will be presented to cabinet in February next year, said Salang. BERNAMA
